On Saturday 11th May I am running the first of this year’s photographic workshop on The Farne Islands.
(I’ll run another running on 22nd June that will be available for booking soon but please contact me if you are interested in a different date.)
The workshops will be £55 head, but there are additional costs:
The workshop price excludes the boat ride tickets and landing fees. We will be going with Billy Shiels’ Glad Tidings.
The boat trip is £40. I’ll reserve the places and you can either pay me or pay directly at the office in Seahhouses.
There is also a landing fee of £34.80. However, that is waived if you have National Trust membership (£69/year) or the cheaper National Trust of Scotland membership (£57/year).
You get really close to puffin, shag, arctic tern, guillemot, razorbill, arctic tern and a whole lot more. We will see seals and, if we are lucky, dolphin too. Also included is a cruise around the islands.
The workshop will include camera settings, positioning yourself for birds on the ground and in-flight, bird behaviour, photograph composition and exposure. You will have plenty of opportunity to put the skills into practice and get stunning photos of the birds.
It is an intensive day on the islands; the birds are noisy and the guano smelly. There is little shelter from the sun, and no toilet on Staple Island, which is the first we visit. There is a toilet on Inner Farne. The trips are weather and sea-state dependent. If the sailing fails then I will either postpone the trip to a mutually convenient time or refund you in full.
Places on these trips are limited and so I am limiting the group to 7 participants.
A telephoto zoom lens of around 70-200mm is ideal, but you will still get great shots with a standard lens.
I will supply a full kit list when you sign up, but you won’t need a lot of extra gear although you will need a packed lunch and drink.
We will need to meet in Seahouses at around 8:30 in the morning for a 9.30am sailing, we need to collect our tickets by 9:00. We get back ashore between 3.30 and 4pm
Sorry, if you cancel, this workshop is non-refundable
