Flexible tuition designed around your Northumberland Photography Holidays

on Ivor's bespoke Northumberland Photography Holidays and Private Workshops, some clients choose to concentrate on black and white photography.

Northumberland Photography Holidays are becoming ever more popular.

Are you visiting Northumberland and would like to make photography part of your stay here? If so, Ivor offers private, flexible photography workshops and led photo sessions for visitors staying anywhere in Northumberland. Whether you would like a single two-hour session, several photography outings spread across your holiday, or an intensive five-day photography course, he can build the training around you.

There’s no fixed itinerary to follow. You choose how much photography you want to include in your holiday, what you want to learn and, where practical, the places you would like to photograph.

My role is to provide the photography training, local knowledge and guidance. You arrange your own hotel, guest house or holiday cottage, giving you complete freedom to choose where you stay, how much you spend on accommodation and what else you want to do during your visit.

That means your photography holiday remains exactly that – your holiday. Ivor Rackham

Photography training that fits around your Northumberland Photography Holidays

Some photographers visiting Northumberland simply want to spend a couple of hours improving their photography.

Others want several sessions during the week: perhaps landscape photography one morning, wildlife photography another day, and a sunrise, sunset, or night photography session later in the holiday. Alternatively, you might want to try macro photography in a forest, or even visit the Farne Islands to see the puffins.

If photography is the main purpose of your visit, Ivor can also arrange a more intensive programme covering several days.

Bespoke Northumberland Photography Holidays and Private Workshops can include nighttime photography such as this one of the aurora glowing pink above a ruined pier.

Your course could include landscape, seascape, wildlife, coastal birds, long exposures, night photography, camera controls, composition, filters, creative exposure or other subjects that interest you. The choice is yours.

You agree on the programme before your visit. Ivor will then adapt it to match your experience, equipment, and photographic interests.

One workshop or an entire week – you decide

You don’t need to book a complete photography holiday package. You might choose one two-hour workshop during a family holiday, giving you plenty of time for everything else you have planned.

Alternatively, we can arrange three or four sessions at different times during the week, choosing locations and subjects that work particularly well with the weather, tides, wildlife and available light.

At the other extreme, Ivor can devise a five-day bespoke photography course. This lets you explore photography in much greater depth and visit a wider range of Northumberland locations.

Additionally, on these Northumberland Photography Holidays, because you book your accommodation independently, you don’t pay me for hotel rooms, meals, or packaged-tour extras you might not want. You remain free to choose anything from a campsite or self-catering cottage to a luxury Northumberland hotel.

Photograph Northumberland with someone who knows it

Northumberland offers an extraordinary variety of photographic subjects.

Therefore, depending on your interests, possible locations can include much of Northumberland. The Northumberland Coast National Landscape runs north from Amble to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Moreover, there’s Warkworth, Druridge Bay, Hauxley, Alnmouth, Craster, Dunstanburgh Castle, Bamburgh, Rothbury, Holy Island, the National Park, the Cheviots, Northumberlandia and many other well-known and less obvious locations.

Another key point: Ivor doesn’t suggest locations simply because they’re famous. Light, weather, tides, season and the type of photography you want to do all matter. He can also help you choose locations that make sense for the photographs you want to create.

There are plenty of opportunities to photograph puffins and other sea birds in Northumberland. This puffin in flight was taken on a Bespoke Northumberland Photography Holidays and Private Workshop to the Farne Islands.

Northumberland Photography Holidays are Suitable for beginners and experienced photographers

You don’t need to be an expert photographer.

You can use Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic, OM System/Olympus or virtually any other camera system.

Example prices

What follows are guide prices for one person. The final cost depends on location, travel time, the number and length of sessions, the number of people, and any additional costs associated with a particular activity.

Intensive learning is usually limited to bite-sized sessions of around 1½ hours, as longer periods of concentrated instruction can make it difficult to absorb and retain new information. However, on-location photoshoots are usually 2 hours or more, allowing plenty of time to practise techniques in a more relaxed, practical setting.

Accordingly, your final price will depend on the number and length of the sessions, the locations you choose, travelling time and any additional costs associated with a particular location or activity. Build your own Northumberland Photography Holidays

The easiest way to arrange your Northumberland Photography Holidays is to tell Ivor where you are staying, when you will be in Northumberland, what you like photographing, your experience level, how many people will be taking part and approximately how many sessions you would like.

Ivor can then suggest a programme and provide a quotation.

Finally, you don’t need to have everything decided in advance. If you simply know that you want to spend part of your holiday improving your photography, get in touch and we can discuss the possibilities.
