Bamburgh Castle & Beach. This is the classic Northumberland shot; dunes, reflections, and huge skies.
Lindisfarne (Holy Island). With its priory, castle, harbour huts, it's unbeatable at sunrise. There is a tidal causeway access which restricts timings.
Dunstanburgh Castle has an iconic basalt boulders foreground; moody weather and night skies transforms it. Dramatic ruins with huge mood potential. You can choose photographing from Craster direction or Embleton Bay depending upon the time of day or night.
Alnmouth Beach & Estuary. This colourful village, has sweeping sands, and estuary curves.
Beadnell Bay. A horseshoe bay, lime kilns, and great long‑exposure opportunities.
Warkworth Castle has strong architectural lines and elevated viewpoints over the Coquet.
Alnwick Castle & Gardens has grand architecture plus structured garden compositions.
Hadrian’s Wall (Housesteads / Sycamore Gap area) This rugged landscape has Roman history, and dramatic light.
Cragside (National Trust). With its Victorian engineering, woodland, and lakes; its great all year round but especially in the autumn.
The Cheviot & Hedgehope The rolling hills, big skies, and atmospheric weather makes this a great destination
Bolam Lake Country Park's misty mornings, reflections, and woodland wildlife makes it a great place to visit,
Kielder Water & Forest has a vast reservoir, dark skies, and modern architecture as well as a bird of prey centre.
Druridge Bay Country Park with its beach, lake, dunes, woodland, and reliable sunrise/sunset angles is a fabulous place to visit.
Less well-known sites include:
Howick Bathing House & Coastline for its atmospheric rocky shore, blowholes, and low footfall.
Cullernose Point has columnar dolerite cliffs, superb for long exposures and geology-led compositions.
Boulmer is a quiet fishing village with cobles, lobster pots, and big skies.
Hauxley Nature Reserve (near Amble) features wildlife hides, reed beds, and a coastal light.
Hareshaw Linn (Bellingham) is a lush gorge with mossy boulders and a beautiful waterfall that offers a great soft light.
Linhope Spout (Ingram Valley) is a tall waterfall in a dramatic bowl, which is great for wide‑angle compositions.
Allen Banks & Staward Gorge has ancient woodland, river curves, and autumn colour.
Hindhope Linn (Redesdale Forest) is a lesser-known waterfall with atmospheric conifers.
Edlingham Castle This quiet, rugged ruin with strong angles and a photogenic viaduct nearby.
Chipchase Castle (Wark). A private estate but photogenic from public footpaths; great for telephoto compression.
Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens. Its quarry gardens give unique textures and diffused light.
Warkworth Hermitage is only accessible by boat at certain times: atmospheric medieval carving and riverside reflections.
Simonside Hills (Rothbury). Big vistas, gritstone outcrops, and heather moorland.
The Cheviot foothills (Ingram / Hedgehope area) has rolling shapes, isolated trees, and dramatic weather.
Northumberlandia (Cramlington): This sculptural landform offers abstract, aerial-style compositions from ground level.
